The Magic Trees are bringing the music of the '70s back to life. The group is fresh off a tour in England, and is coming to Yorkton for a show based around the music of the '70s.

The band consists of two couples, and has a repertoire consisting of original music and covers. This show will consist mostly of covers, explains Jaime Dickson with the group.

"We call it the vinyl collection, there's lots of Fleetwood Mac, Wings, Rolling Stones, Nazareth and that kind of thing," says Dickson.

This isn't the first time in Yorkton, as the group was here about a year ago, she explains. She says they're excited to be back, since the last time was a great time.

The band is glad to be back from the tour overseas, and Dickson says that it's giving them a chance to take out songs that they haven't played in a long time. She notes that some songs that were huge in North America would just get a blank stare in England, so it's been a while since they have played them.

"It's kind of interesting to see the differences. It's the same people, but such a different array of music that became popular."

When it comes to their choice in style, Dickson says it's a sound that is universal, and connects with a wide range of people in a wide range of age groups.

"That kind of music I find is multi-generational. People that are my parents' age, or even my grandmother have songs that we play that are some of their favorite songs, and yet my little brother who is 21, there are songs in there that he sings along to... It's music that anyone can enjoy, it's not specific to when you grew up," she notes.

The focus for the group is on giving people a chance to have fun, get up and dance, and really enjoy their evening.

"We're there to have a good time and throw a party basically. It's a good feeling to have people get up and dance and that's what people are there for. They want to have a few drinks and have a good time, and we're there to make that happen."

The band has been doing what it has wanted since day one, Dickson says, and they are proud of everything they've done so far.

"The goal from day one was this is awesome, this kind of peace and love feel that people were having in the '70s, why aren't people feeling like this now, we need to get out there and spread this and make people happy. Right from the beginning we had this idea that we wanted to do this by playing music."

She also credits the Internet with giving them the opportunity to go on tours that might not have been possible years ago. She says it's much easier for a small band to get their name out and find willing places to play, and it's easier for venues and audiences to see what new bands can bring to their location.

The Magic Trees will be at the City Limits Inn on November 4 and 5. The band also has a website at www.magictreesband.com which features videos and links to music samples and concert information.
