RCMP in Canora are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a missing person who was believed to have fallen into the Whitesand river. Members of the "F" division Underwater Recover Team were on site as of Wednesday morning. The team began on the water with the use of a remote control camera. An RCMP plane was also being utilized to assist in the search.
The investigation thus far has revealed that a 22 year old male from Yorkton was observed falling into the river by a witness. Shortly after this occurred, the witness called a relative who made a call to 911. RCMP members attended immediately along with the Canora Fire and Rescue.
The search area is considerably large, spanning a distance of approximately 3-4 kilometers.
A search along the river bank, and on the water was conducted by the Canora Fire and Rescue. The effort is also being assisted by Police Dog Services from Swift Current as well as members from Kamsack Detachment. The RCMP Search & Rescue team was tasked to assist in this search. Several members of the local community are also assisting with the search for the missing male. Water conditions are described as being at high levels with a strong current.
The name of the man was not released as of press time.
