The Government of Saskatchewan officially declared May as KidSport Month during a media conference and kickoff event today at Regina's St. Francis Community School. The announcement was made by the Honourable Bill Hutchinson, Mini-ster of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport, and Don McDougall, Chair of KidSport Saskatchewan.
The month-long campaign is designed to raise awareness of, and funds for, KidSport Saskatchewan, a registered children's charity dedicated to helping children from families facing financial obstacles participate in sport.
"KidSport is a fantastic organization that has allowed thousands of Saskatchewan children, who may not have otherwise had the opportunity, to participate in sport," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Bill Hutchinson says. "KidSport Month is an opportunity to celebrate KidSports' year-round, fundraising for our youth and their many other great efforts. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the fun. KidSport events ahead."
"KidSport's motto - So All Kids Can Play - perfectly captures our motivation in sponsoring this event," said Jan Belanger, Assistant Vice-President Community Affairs for Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life. "We're proud to support Kid-Sport and its efforts in continuing to provide young people with access to recreational opportunities."
"KidSport would like to thank Great-West Life, London Life, and Canada Life for once again being the presenting sponsors of Kid-Sport Month and the Fun and Fitness Corporate Challenge," says McDougall. "I would also like to thank Sobeys, Don Narcisse and all four other KidSport Month corporate and individual sponsors and supporters.Thank you for believing in the value of sport and helping to ensure that all kids can play."
This popular event will run 36 corporate teams through nine exciting events that will test participants' minds, bodies and senses of humour. Last year, the event raised a record amount of over $130,000 to help hundreds of Saskatchewan children participate in sport.
Local KidSport committees will host a variety of events, including the Great Saskatchewan Hot Dog Sale and Kompanies for Kids.
Participating Sobeys locations will also accept individual donations throughout the month and will host barbecues in support of KidSport in May.
New to the line-up this year is the Don Narcisse All-Star Event. Narcisse and Eye Inspire Events have planned a football camp for kids, and an evening gala featuring many current and former CFL players such as Narcisse, Kerry Joseph and Henry Burris. All proceeds from the Narcisse All Star Event will support KidSport Saskatchewan, so all kids can play!

It's that time of the year again; KidSport month is upon us and the Great Saskatchewan Hot Dog Sale will once again be happening. Come have lunch on Friday May 27 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Cornerstone Credit Union and make a donation to a great organization.
KidSport funding stays within the community to get youth involved in sports by covering the cost of the sport to remove financial barriers. KidSport exists so that All Kids Can Play!
KidSport would like to offer Yorkton Coop Food Centre, Harvest Meats and Cornerstone Credit Union a huge thank you for sponsoring this event!
