Melville's two Bantam Tier 2 teams had a strong showing at their home tourney last weekend.
The Melville Billionaires lost out in the A Consolation final, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Regina Wild while the Leafs took all the marbles in the B Consolation, knocking off the Regina Blackhawks 6-4 in the final.
In the B Consolation the Leafs had an offensive explosion in the final period, scoring five times to knock off the Blackhawks. Rawley Lingelbach had two markers for the Leafs while Walker Munson, Brooks Fleury, Dallas Schutz and Paul Jewhurst all fired singles.
The Leafs trailed the Hawks 2-0 after the first and 2-1 after two periods of play. The Leafs were in that game due to a 7-6 loss to the Yorkton Terriers Sunday morning. The Leafs, which trailed by period scores of 3-1 and 4-3, got a natural hat-trick from Munson and singles came off the sticks of Kaeden Krupski, Camden Fiesel and Austin Myers.
Their second game of the event Saturday saw them take a first-period lead which propelled them to a 6-3 triumph over the Prince Albert entry. Munson lit the lamp three times for the Leafs with singles coming from Fleury, Schutz and Myers.
In the tournament opener the Leafs got off to a slow start and it cost them, as they dropped a 5-4 decision to the Regina Wild. Munson, Lingelbach, Myers and Fleury each lit the lamp in a losing cause in a penalty filled contest marred by 22 minors, 11 to each squad.
In the A Consolation final the Billionaires couldn't keep pace with the Regina Wild and bowed out with a 4-2 loss.
Jared Yeadon fired a goal and added an assist for the Bils with Cole Rathgeber also tallying once. In the previous game, the Bils couldn't get on the scoresheet as they were blanked 5-0 by the Regina Capitals, the team which lost in the A final to the Estevan squad.
Saturday the Billionaires knocked off the Regina Blackhawks 3-2, thanks to a two goal and one assist performance by Jayden Napady. Taylor Elmy chipped in with a goal and a helper to round out the Bils scoring.
In the opener Saturday, the Bils scored once in the first frame, five times in the middle stanza and added three more tallies in the third to dump the Carlyle Cougers by a 9-1 count. Napady, Josh Nagy and Kyle Rathgeber each lit the lamp twice for the Bils with singles coming from Andrew Erhardt, Cole Rathgeber and Elmy. Estevan was the top club in the B side and the Regina Rockies claimed the honors in the C final.
