Millionaires on a roll

The Melville Millionaires have a three game winning streak.

The Melville Millionaires have a three game winning streak.

With a 6-3 victory over the Notre Dame Hounds in a neutral-site match-up in Fort Qu'Appelle the Mils have moved out of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Sherwood Conference basement and are on the verge of challenging for third spot.

Lucas Froese and Brayden Metz led the way offensively with Metz notching his eighth and ninth tallies of the year and adding an assist while Froese scored his fifth of the campaign and added a pair of helpers.

Justin Hollinger chipped in with a pair of assists and Craig Karius, Mark Owen and Cody Hanson each lit the lamp once for the Mils.

Notre Dame were the aggressors on this night, being whistled for eight of 15 minors as well as drawing the game's lone major and misconduct penalties.

It was a see-saw affair which saw the Hounds up 2-1 after the opening frame and the teams tied following 40 minutes.

Trailing by three goals to one of the league's top teams, the Melfort Mustangs, the Million-aires mounted a furious comeback, knotting the score at 3-3 with just 56 ticks left on the clock.

Overtime solved nothing but Melville's first shooter in the shootout, Hollinger was the only player to find the twine, giving the Mils a 4-3 victory at the Stadium.

Metz and Karius each registered a pair of assists while the Millionaires got a goal and a helper from Michael Desjarlais, his sixth, with singles coming off the sticks of Bonish, his fourth of the season and Froese.

The Mustangs, widely regarded as one of the SJHL's top clubs, led 1-0 after the opening frame and 2-0 after two stanzas of play. Standing tall in the Millionaires goal was Rakochy, blocking 35 of 38 shots as the Mils put 36 pucks on the 'Stangs net.

Each club managed a pair of powerplay markers with Melfort being fingered for 10 of the 17 minors called in the contest.
