Neverest might by a young group, but they've been working hard to establish themselves in the music scene both in Canada and around the world. The group is teaming up with Alyssa Reid for their first headlining tour. Bassist Paul Loduca recently spoke to The News Review about the new tour.
The band has been in Yortkon before, opening for the Stereos. Loduca says that the first performance in the city made them want to return.
"It was such an incredible crowd for us, it was so fresh, we didn't expect that at all. We were really excited that we able to come back," Loduca notes.
"When we got there, kids were so enthusiastic and so excited, and it was a great response for us... We put it in there that we HAVE to put Yorkton on the tour, it just left a huge impression on us."
The other headliner on the tour, Alyssa Reid, and Loduca says that touring with her is something the band is looking forward to.
"She's another amazing artist. We've had the opportunity to meet her before at the MMVAs, and she's a very sweet girl, has an amazing voice, and we're very excited to hit the road with her," Loduca says.
While this is the first time the band has been a headliner, they've been on some high profile tours in the past year. The band is coming off being the opener for New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys, Loduca says that the big arena tour was huge for the band, gaining them exposure and new fans, but they're excited to get back to smaller venues as well.
"Going to arenas that were sold out across the country, it was breathtaking, and now we get to go back to those smaller venues. There's definitely a different magic for those two worlds, the arena world and that theatre world. Being more intimate with the fans and being able to reach out and touch their hands is so special, it's all about creating moments," Loduca notes.
Having their own tour allows the band to stretch themselves creatively, Loduca says. The band is going to be bringing out lots of new material, and there's a chance they're going to go acoustic in the middle of the set to show a different side of the group.
"It's really going to showcase what we can do and how intimate we can be with all of our fans."
The fans are the driving force behind the tour, and fan interaction is going to be a centerpiece of it. Loduca notes that they're going to meet fans do a signing after every show, and they will also use Twitter to interact with people and answer questions during the show. Social media has been a big part of the group since the beginning for, and Loduca says that the connection with the fans that they can foster through that format is something the band enjoys. He notes that people often say that having a band talk to them makes their day, and keeps them engaged.
"If your favorite artist was talking to you out of the whole crowd, it was a big deal, it left a mark. We want to leave a lasting impression for everyone, and if we can create something that leaves a lasting impression for life, that's huge," Loduca says.
When it comes to new material, one might assume that the band doesn't have the time, since they're on the road constantly. Loduca says that no matter where they are, they'll find time to try writing new songs, and everyone from the band, to the producers, to management brings ideas to the table,
"We're not just recording in the studio, we're recording on our phones and in GarageBand and things like that just to keep everything moving... It's very organic the writing process. We have to find time," Loduca notes.
It has been busy for the group, which was only formed in 2010, but Loduca says they're focused on enjoying the moment and making the most of their success.
"There have been many monumental steps that have been achieved in such a short period, sometimes it's really hard to slow it down. We're enjoy every second of it, but it's about trying to stay focused in all the madness. It's a good madness," Loduca notes.
Neverest and Alyssa Reid will be in Yorkton at the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium on October 17. Advance tickets are $22 and are available at Booster Juice and Cab Clothing. Tickets are also $25 at the door.
