Call it beginner's luck or call it the battle of the sexes, but sisters Caylee Hiebert and Logan Werner drove exceptionally well Sunday afternoon at the Parkland Racing Association stock car races at the Yellowhead International Speedway.
Hiebert claimed a win in the first heat of the Street Class while her younger sister Logan claimed a pair of wins. Werner, whose racing debut featured a win in the third heat of the Thunderstock Class as well as a win in the Thunderstock feature race.
Werner piloted a car in a Ladies Class race last season and found she was hooked on driving a stock car very fast around the three eighths mile track. She joined her sister and brother-in-law Richard Hiebert as the third member of the racing team.
Werner drives a stock 1971 Olds Cutlass in the Thunder Class.
Initially she was drawn to the sport by the adrenalin rush. Now, she also likes to beat all the boys at their own game as swell, she admits.
She attributes at least part of her success on the track to her sister who Werner says taught her well.
Werner has attracted several sponsors this season including Wernside Dairy, Yorkton Dairy Queen, Brown's Leisure World and Home Hardware as part of the family racing team.
How long she will continue to race will depend on her wonderful fiance Ian Spearman, who she plans to marry next year, she reports.
