Nominations open

Chamber seeks directors

People hoping to become a voice for business in the City of Yorkton will soon have their chance. The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for the 2011 Board of Directors.

The nomination requires the signatures of two Chamber members in good standing plus the nominee's signature. The nominees will be posted to the Chamber of Commerce's website before voting takes place. Nominations close October 31, and voting will take place for a couple weeks after that.

Those who become part of the Board of Directors would be expected to attend the ten board meetings in the upcoming year, and also to participate in the many Chamber functions throughout the year. They are expected to promote the city and the chamber as well.

Juanita Polegi with the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce says that becoming part of the board of directors is an opportunity for people to actively promote business and the city as a whole.

"It is the voice of business in Yorkton, so to be able to sit at the board table and identify the needs of the business community. You're serving the community by sitting on the board," Polegi says.

Polegi also notes that the connections within the board are an excellent opportunity to get more involved with the business community.

"It's a great opportunity to network with fellow board members. With sixteen people sitting around the table, you're working with people you may not encounter in your every day work life, so the networking opportunity is tremendous," Polegi says.

The hope is that a wide variety of people seeking a nomination, to ensure that the Board of Directors for the upcoming year can do the best job possible.

"We're always looking for people who have good ideas and have that interest in serving. The more people who are nominated, the more exciting the election, and the more certainty that we will have some really good candidates," concludes Polegi.

Nomination forms are available on the Chamber of Commerce's website at www.yorktonchamber.com or at the Chamber office.
