The Yorkton Orioles senior baseball team recently competed and won a tournament in Hudson Bay. After participating in their first ever SESBL season, the Orioles looked for new competition in the tournament. Playing five games in a twenty team tournament from July 6-8 the Orioles got a full weekend of baseball action. First the Orioles beat Lanigan 5-1 with Ron Sopko and Chris Wyatt pitching, Jeremy Krainyk hit a two run home run to give the Orioles a good start to the weekend. In the second game the Orioles defeated Moosimin 11-9, sending them into the quarterfinals.
The Quarter final game saw the Orioles earn an exciting 7-6 come from behind win against Riverhurst with Derek Derkatch and Jeff Bahrey having multi hit performances. The Semi-final game saw another come from behind affair as the Orioles beat Macklin 6-5 to continue their run to the championship. In the final the Orioles met the Estevan Drillers and after two down to the wire knockout games handled the Drillers easily in the final with a 11-2 victory. Derkatch and Krainyk held the Drillers to two runs in the final game, giving the Orioles the championship in Hudson Bay, making it a memorable weekend for the newly founded ballclub.
