Park upgrades underway

Saskatchewan's Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty has announced further capital improvements to provincial parks.

Saskatchewan's Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty has announced further capital improvements to provincial parks. Electrical service will be added or upgraded to a total of 287 campsites at Rowan's Ravine and The Battlefords Provincial Park this year. As well, a boat launch in Meadow Lake Provincial Park will be upgraded.

"Our provincial parks are the cornerstone of tourism in Saskatchewan," Doherty states. "Increasing electrical campsites and upgrading boat launches enhance the experience for both visitors and residents."

Electrical expansion priorities in provincial parks are determined by demand, peak period occupancy and the number of existing electrified sites currently available at each park location. Rowan's Ravine Provincial Park will have 139 sites upgraded in Elmwood Campground. Mid City Electric from La Ronge, Saskatchewan is the successful contractor for the work at Rowan's Ravine Provincial Park.

The Battlefords Provincial Park, North and South Campgrounds will have 64 campsites upgraded and electrical service expanded to a total of 84 campsites. Livewire Electric from Shellbrook, Saskatchewan is the successful contractor for the work at The Battlefords Provincial Park.

The upgrade to the Waterhen Lake boat launch is part of the ongoing boat launch renewal program, which provides for upgrade or replacement of boat launches throughout the provincial parks system. R & A Construction Ltd. of Goodsoil, Saskatchewan has been contracted to complete upgrade work at the Waterhen Lake boat launch in Meadow Lake Provincial Park.

The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport is committed to protecting infrastructure investments that support economic and recreational activity and ensuring the safety of the public who visit parks and recreation sites.
