The Yorkton Springers Gymnastics pre-competitive and competitive teams recently competed at the Queen City Kinsmen Invitational Gymnastics Tournament in Regina.
Springers coach Todd Appel says the young gymnasts are continuing their strong performances. Of the eight competitive team members two girls finished second all around and one finished third all around. The Yorkton athletes captured a total of eleven medals at the meet.
One youngster, Brynn Jarvis set a Yorkton Springers record with an all around score of 48.00, the highest score ever earned by a Yorkton athlete. Jarvis has set a new benchmark for her teammates to aim for.
The Queen City meet was the last competition for the Springers before the provincial championships in Prince Albert. Appel went out on a limb, suggesting three of his competitive gymnasts will finish on the podium at provincials. He hopes that one or two of them capture a provincial title.
Appel says it's been a long season. Following a short break, the Springers will start to prepare for the provincial meet. The training will attempt to have the athletes peak for provincials.
Appel says he's happy with the team's hard work and competition results. "Most of them have been rewarded for their hard work. Hopefully they'll keep it up. There's one more to go," he closes.
