THE YORKTON MOTOCROSS RACES offered race fans an opportunity to watch the mini-MXers. Though small in stature, mounted on small displacement 50cc bikes, the youngsters battled every bit as hard as their older, bigger counterparts at the Yorkton Motorcycle Club's annual race meet Sunday afternoon at the Millstone Raceway.

The Yorkton Motorcycle Club hosted the seventh round of the Saskatchewan Motocross Championship series Sunday at the Millstone Raceway north of the city.

While the rain Saturday became a concern, a little creative preparation of the pit area and the return of sunshine and a little wind helped to make the track suitable for racing which made the event another success, says club president Rick Bradshaw. After a cancellation several years ago, the club had a back-up plan, used it and the event went over well, he says.

The weekend saw 245 entries which is average for the Yorkton race meet, Bradshaw reports.

The track held together very well for the duration of the event, says Bradshaw. The cooperation of the competitors was also excellent, he adds.

The Yorkton riders turned in some impressive results, he states. Young Haylen Langelier had an impressive performance. Denaye Giroux won the Ladies' Class and had an outstanding ride in an intermediate race. Brendon Arnett who hasn't raced the whole season borrowed Giroux's bike and had two very strong rides. Kane Dawson, returned from injury, was impressive. Kennedy Lutz had amazing rides in the 85cc 7-11 class.

Currently challenging for supremacy on the Saskat-chewan women's circuit, young Kennedy Lutz is proving her mettle both at home and abroad.

Lutz won a regional competition at Wortham, Texas to qualify as a competitor at the prestigious Loretta Lynne Nationals for the top motocross riders in North America set fort the August long weekend. She's looking forward to the race and hopes to bring home a podium finish.

On hand for the annual Yorkton motocross race meet, Lutz claimed her class and challenged for top place in the women's division where she had to go head-to-head with western Canadian women's champ, Denaye Giroux. She finished second in the ladies' class to Giroux and claimed a first place in the 85cc 7-11 class.

The Biro brothers who got their start in Yorkton, and currently race out of Moose Jaw topped their classes. "We still consider them part of our racing family because they started here and grampa Doug does a lot of work out there with the tractor," Bradshaw notes. Zach Hudy rode very well in the super mini and junior classes. Alex Nagy Reynolds finished third overall.

The crowd was good despite the wind and hot sun with close to 600 spectators taking in the races. "The day was fairly long. We didn't get out of there until seven," he recalls.

Bradshaw appreciated all the volunteers who worked the race meet including club members and those recruited to help as lap counters, flag boys, and to prepare the track.

Results for all current and past Yorkton Motorcycle Club members were: Kirk Biro, Moose Jaw first overall in 50cc 4-6 class; Kamary Lutz, Yorktonfifth overall in 50cc 7-8 class; Jarret Biro, Moose Jaw first overall in 65cc Pee Wee class and third overall in 85cc 7-11 class; Ken-nedy Lutz, Yorkton first overall in 85cc 7-11 class, and second overall in Women's class; Kyle Biro, Moose Jaw first overall in 85cc 12-16 class, and first overall in Super Mini; Haylen Langelier, York-ton second overall in 85cc 12-16 class, third overall in Super Mini; Ty Ballard, Roblin, Man. 5th overall in 85cc 12-16 class, and tenth overall in Super Mini; Morgan Gurniak, York-ton eighth overall in 85cc 12 to 16 class; Zach Hudy, Yorkton second overall in Super Mini, first overall in Junior MX-2 and first overall in Youth class; Derek Magera, Tuffnell fourth overall in Beginner GP; Nathan Gordon, York-ton 12th overall in Beginner GP; Bryden Rusnak, Melville 24th overall in Beginner GP; Levi Litvanyi, Yorkton 11th overall in Junior MX-2 and sixth overall in Youth Class; Serge Yacyshyn, Yorkton 20th overall in Junior MX-2 17th overall in Youth Class; Cody Yacyshyn, Yorkton 22nd overall in Junior MX-2 and 20th overall in Youth Class; Denaye Giroux, Yorkton first overall in Women's Class; and fifth overall in Intermediate MX-2; Jo-Ann Pearce, Yorkton sixth overall in Women's Class; Roland Giroux, Yorkton first overall in Plus 50 Class; Alex Nagy-Reynolds, Preece-ville third overall in Inter-mediate MX-2 sixth overall in Intermediate MX-1; Brendon Arnett, York-ton second overall in Pro MX-2 first overall in Pro MX-2; Kane Dawson, Yorkton second overall in Pro MX-2 second overall in Pro GP.
