YOU JUST KNOW IT can't be good when you see your car pouring smoke during the demolition derby run during the intermission at the at the Yellowhead Speedway Sunday afternoon.

The second Parkland Race Association stock car race meet went ahead despite cool conditions and the threat of rain Sunday afternoon.

Motorsports fans in attendance were treated to a demolition derby during the intermission as well as top local thunder stock and street stock racing.

Caylee Hiebert, the lone female race driver in the club was on hand with a new car this year moving into street stock racing from the thunder stock car she campaigned last year. Hiebert who drives the Number 7 car, a 1972 Olds Cutlass this year, says she did fairly well despite some mechanical difficulties with her car last season.

Hiebert, who is sponsored by Wernside Dairy, Dairy Queen, Brown's Leisure World, Brown's AutoPro Collision Service and Thall's Service Centre in Hanley, says she may be joined by her sister Logan this year so she will no longer remain the lone female driver.

One of the top local drivers last season who has started off with a couple of street stock feature race wins this season, Dave Clark, campaigns Number 5, what started out as a 1978 Pontiac Grand Prix. "We're not sure what it is anymore," he quips as bits and pieces from other cars have replaced original parts that were damaged during races. The car which currently sports an Oldsmobile roof, a Buick front fender and a Monte Carlo hood, is capable of reaching speeds of about 112 kilometers an hour on the three eighths mile oval track, Clark estimates.

Clark who has been racing for about 12 years, started racing in Preeceville, Swan River and Dauphin before the Yellowhead International Speedway was developed in Yorkton.

A relatively late starter to stock car racing, the 55 year old Clark who enjoys NASCAR racing says he enjoys cars and the thrill of racing and competition.

Sunday afternoon Clark capped the day with his a street stock heat race win as well as his second feature race win of the current season.

Results of Sunday's race meet were: Street heat 1 - # 49 James Han-sen sponsored by Minute Muffler and Brake. Street Heat 2 - # 5 Dave Clarke sponsored by Yorkton Hyundai. Street Feature - # 5 Dave Clarke sponsored by Yorkton Hyundai. Thunderstock Heat 1 - # 8 Tyler Rosenthal. Thunderstock Heat 2 - # 01 Tyler Carter. Thunderstock Feature - # 8 Tyler Rosenthal.
