Rapid fire rants for your Labour Day Weekend pleasure:
On Tuesday the Blue Jays announced that John Gibbons will stay on as manager for the 2014 season. After the Blue Jays dismal season you think GM Alex Anthopoulos would be looking for a new manager and not allowing Blue Jays fans to realize he spent around $100 million dollars on a team that finished in the exact spot this year that the team those players finished at last year, dead last.
I have stopped watching the Blue Jays this season, mainly because I have no reason to and there are better sports on television than meaningless August baseball, hopefully a ratings dip is enough for Rogers to take things further again after the amount of money they spent last year still resulted in nothing. With a terrible manager like Gibbons at the helm for another year, Jays fans will need all the help they can get to be excited for next season after this debacle.
I was lucky enough to be one of the people who had their tweets read during Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole's "Hate Mail" gag on their recent podcast last week. Apparently Jay and Dan didn't appreciate my comment that their new Fox Sports Live highlight show got a very poor review from me and took to reading my tweet on the air.
I got a laugh out of it and respect the duo as Canadian broadcasting icons that are loved by millions, but my opinion on Fox Sports 1 and its new attempt to make "Jockularity" beat ESPN in the ratings remains the same. Have fun in California and good luck guys. I have always liked Tim and Sid better anyways.
Lastly I need to give a tip of my hat to Major League Soccer for what was one of the best weekend's in the league's history from an entertainment and attendance standpoint. I watched TSN's Saturday doubleheader of the Montreal Impact hosting the Houston Dynamo and the Vancouver Whitecaps hosting Landon Donovan and the L.A. Galaxy and was treated to two mostly full Canadian venues that had all of the atmosphere of a European match with the MLS playoff race in full swing. With 67, 000 plus at the derby match between Seattle and Portland the following night the MLS is on the rise. Something that is only good for the game.
Those are my rant's for this week. Happy Labour Day everyone.
