Keeping local residents active and creative is the goal behind an annual summer art camp held in the city.
All the projects done during the camp were made from using some sort of recycled material.
Bara' Academy of the Arts has been operating in Yorkton since Spring of 2009. During the year, courses are offered on drawing, colour, mixed media and sculpting for students of all ages (three being the youngest - up to senior ages). Other specially designed courses have been offered to organizations wanting to incorporate Art into their agenda.
Summers are generally used to shift into a different gear of "thematic" art for students. Last summer two camps "African Safari" and "Egyptian Wonders".
Recently, campers from 6 - 9 years of age had the opportunity to learn about the 4R's and, at the same time, create items such as reusable bags, handmade paper and robots from used computer parts (their imaginations ran wild!). Older campers from 10 - 14 years of age have some of the same opportunities, as well the chance to work on projects such as sculpting with aluminum cans, and making their own eco friendly jewellery from blue box bound items.
