HABITAT FOR HUMANITY has begun a new venture to raise money and get people building materials with the ReStore, which stocks donated materials and sells them, with the profits going to Habitat builds. Merv Catchuk, Manager of the Yorkton ReStore and George Plews, Chair of the Managing Committee, announce the grand opening on July 3.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is getting ready to open. The store, which stocks donated construction materials at 180 Ball Road, is going to hold its Grand Opening on July 3.

George Plews, Chair of the ReStore Management committee says that the ReStore is the latest step in the growth of Yorkton's Habitat for Humanity to program. He says that they felt a ReStore was a way to raise money for Habitat and also show that they are taking new approaches to being involved in the community.

"If we can show that we are also supporting it with funding from the ReStore, I think that shows a lot of credibility."

Plews says that the support in Yorkton for Habitat has been the main driving force behind these projects, and that he's proud of the many ways Yorkton is being an example for communities of this size.

"I'm proud of Yorkton, because we are the only community of this size that I know of which has a ReStore, has builds, has partners the way we have, things like the Faith Build that are rather new."

The store itself offers a range of building materials, with some of it being new materials donated by some of Habitat's many suppliers, such as a selection of windows and doors.

One first for the Yorkton ReStore is partnerships between it and the Sask Abilities Council and Yorkton Transitional Homes for Youth, giving the opportunity for people to get work experience by working in the store. This is something new for the Yorkton ReStore, and Plews says he's excited to see the store giving people opportunities to improve themselves.

Habitat for Humanity is also looking for volunteers right now, whether to help with the ReStore or to assist in other Habitat projects in the community. There are jobs for people of any physical ability and skill level.
