It's a major milestone for the RM of Wallace. The municipality recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, and held party to mark the occasion.

The event, held at Cherrydale Golf Course, saw a golf tournament, supper and dance, with the evening capped off with fireworks. Services in the RM such as the Rhein fire department and the roadworks department were also highlighted at the day.

This has been a year of ups and downs for the RM, explains Reeve Garry Liebrecht. This anniversary comes on the same year as the worst floods the RM has experienced since it was incorporated. Still, while it's been a tough year for the area, Liebrecht notes that they sold out the celebrations and the council is proud of everything accomplished in the area.

"I'm very proud to be the reeve when the 100th anniversary hit," Liebrecht says.

This is a year where many RMs across the province are celebrating 100 years, explains agriculture minister Bob Bjornerud. He notes that he's been travelling across Saskatchewan to the many different celebrations held.

"It's nice to acknowledge the past councillors and reeves, and the current councillors and reeves, who have had to deal with flooding this spring, and the last couple years where it has been a tough couple years... We've had some tough times, and we've had some great times. It's just a time for people to come out and reminisce about what's taken place in the past and look toward the future," Bjornerud says.

The RM of Wallace is Bjornerud's home, so it's good to be back for its anniversary and reconnect with the people he knows well.

"It's nice to be in your home area, and get an opportunity to see people who I don't get to see that often and visit with them," he concludes.
