Road wins signal possible Terrier turn around

The Yorkton Terriers seem to have found a winning formula after a going through a bit of a slump. The turn around started with the 4-1 win over the Flin Flon Bombers. After picking up a point in a narrow shootout loss to the Nipawin Hawks, the Terriers recorded an overtime 4-3 win over the Kindersley Klippers at the West Central Events Centre in Kindersley.

The power play units were working well for both teams as each scored a pair of power play goals in the game.

Curtis Oliver opened the scoring for Yorkton early in the first period with a singlehanded powerplay goal.

Jesse Mysiorek tied the game for Kindersley with a powerplay marker a little past the mid-point in the period.

D Jay McGrath gave the Klippers a one goal edge with another powerplay goal late in the period.

Ryon Sookro evened things up early in the third with a solo powerplay goal.

Mysiorek notched his second of the night to give the Klippers a brief narrow 3-2 lead.

Brent Struble tied the game for Yorkton assisted by Zak Majkowski and Devon McMullen to leave the teams knotted at three after regulation time.

Tyler Giebel notched the game winner just 23 seconds into the overtime period assisted by Struble and Chase Norrish to clinch a 4-3 win.

The Terriers squeaked out another come-from-behind 5-4 shootout win over the Battlefords North Stars at the North Battleford Civic Centre Thursday night. The Terrier powerplay was working overtime, contributing three of Yorkton's four goals to tie the game after regulation time.

Woody Klassen lit up the scoreboard for the North Stars early in the first to give the home team a one goal edge.

Ryley Stefanyshyn tied the game at one in the second half of the first period with a powerplay marker assisted by Brenden Poncelet and Justin Lamontagne.

Sookro gave the Terriers a brief one goal lead 27 seconds into the second period with a Yorkton's second powerplay goal of the game assisted by Giebel.

A pair of second period goals, one each by Braeden Johnson and Brett Miller gave Battleford a narrow one goal lead after two periods.

Stefanyshyn's short handed goal four minutes into the third period, assisted by Poncelet, tied the game at three.

Klassen scored his second goal of the game to reestablish the one goal lead for the North Stars.

Sookro scored his second powerplay marker of the game, assisted by Keven Cann to tie the game at four and send it into overtime.

Following a scoreless overtime period, Sookro slipped the puck past North Stars netminder Graham Hildebrand for the 5-4 Terrier win.

The wins leave the Terriers in fourth place in the SJHL Sherwood Conference.
