For Sacred Heart's Jonathan Bell, the goal for Provincials was simple.

"I tried to go out there and do the best I could," he explains.

Mission accomplished.

Bell and his Sacred Heart Saints teammates took to the road recently to play in the SHSAA Provincial Grass Golf Championships in Humboldt.

For Bell, now in Grade 12, the calibre of competition was definitely an eye-opener.

"The boys (division) in Provincials is (very) difficult to compete in. There's a lot of better golfers that range throughout the province," he explains.

Despite some inclement weather conditions and unfamiliarity with the course, Bell managed to hold his own during the two-day event.

After shooting a respectable 83 on the first day, Bell followed it up with the exact same score on day two for a two-day total of 166 - good for 24th place.

In a field of 82 golfers, Bell's finish was a solid one.

Still, the two good rounds were not the best of the year for the young golfer.

"I did better in districts this year," Bell recalls.

With this being his last year of competition, the graduating Sacred Heart student has no plans to continue his competitive golfing experience. That said, he still has plenty of sports to keep him busy throughout the year.

"I'm playing football and soccer right now," he points out.

The rest of the Sacred Heart scores for the event were; Male Individual scores: Adrian Lucky - 43rd place - 174. Dylan Johnson - 48th place - 177. Troy Waggoner - 55th place - 179. Female Results: (53 competitors): Brittany Ayers - 29th place - 241. Kylie Chupa - 40th place - 255. Kyra Brown - 49th place - 278. Based on total scores; the SHHS girls team were one girl short and finished seventh out of eight teams. The Boys team placed seventh out of 15 teams.
