Despite some challenges, weather-wise, there was some East Central Football League action last Saturday - featuring the Sacred Heart Saints.
The Saints continued their undefeated start to the season by thumping the Kamsack Spartans 48-6 in front of a boisterous home crowd.
"It was a good game, both sides of the ball played well today which was nice to see. Defence was strong and (the) offence moved the ball really well right from the first play of the game," Saints Head Coach Trent Senger observes.
Disregarding their winless record, Senger says that he was wary of the Spartans heading into the game.
"I expected them to be physical and strong," he recalls.
This expectation stemmed from the fact that the Spartans had played the defending Provincial runners-up, Swan River, very tough in their opening contest.
With that in mind, the Saints came very prepared for the task at hand.
Middle linebacker Dakota German was especially focused on the day, racking up an unfathomable 19 tackles in the first half alone.
Senger also points to mobile quarterback Jonathan Bell and defensive back Travis Inglis as players who had strong afternoons.
Inglis, who plays on both sides of the ball, picked off three Kamsack passes.
With a couple of solid wins under their belt, Senger knows that the challenges for his team will only get tougher here on out.
Still, he is encouraged by the growth of his young Saints recruits.
"We're young and small but we seem to really be coming together, everything seems to be working finally."
Senger also indicates that the return of running back Preston Liebrecht should provide an additional spark to his already dangerous offensive attack.
Liebrecht, a Provincial-class sprinter, is expected back in the near future.
The Saints will put their undefeated streak on the line this Thursday as the squad will tangle with the formidable Swan Valley Tigers.
The next home game for the Saints will be on September 23 versus the Esterhazy Warriors.
