For another year a local school is taking home the awards.
Sacred Heart High School's Drama Club production of 'Schoolyard Games' recently travelled to the University of Regina Mainstage Theatre to compete in the Saskatchewan Drama Association (SDA) Provincial High School Drama Festival. The local school qualified for the competition by winning the SDA Region 4 Drama Festival, and at provincials competed against winning plays from ten other provincial regions.
Sacred Heart returned from the recent competition with several awards. All three actresses in the play won acting awards. Bailey Lemcke took home the top acting award at the festival, the University of Regina Acting Award, for the role of Binnie. Danielle Hansen and Angeline Stankewich each won an Acting Award of Merit for playing Eleanor and Susan. Shelby Ruf earned a Technical Theatre Award of Merit for Stage Management, and Lisa Milo also won a Technical Theatre Award of Merit for Assistant Stage Management.
Lisa Milo was chosen by her director as the winner of the Debbie Baker CHEER Award, presented to the student 'without whom the drama club would not be the same' and who exhibits Cooperation, Honest Endeavor, Enthusiasm, and Respect.
The play also won two major group awards. The crew was presented with the Gateway Players Award for Best Technical Crew. 'Schoolyard Games' was also named the Best Visual Production Runner Up.
The play's director, Greg Digout, says, "I was very proud of my cast and crew. We gave a flawless performance, our best performance. The three actresses were absolutely deserving of their awards. I was a little disappointed because I thought we were a contender for the top prize, but the play that won was certainly deserving. It was an excellent production."
The Best Overall Production Award was given to 'The Most Massive Woman Wins', presented by Swift Current Comprehensive High School. Swift Current also won the Best Visual Production Award.
