The new basketball season is underway for the Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) senior boys. The Senior Saints were runners up at a recent tournament in Melville.

The Saints downed Melville 72-38 in their opening game. Leading scorers were Preston Liebrecht who put up 17 points and Carter Ruff, Logan Coutts and Nathan Ruff who each added 10 points. "It was a good, clean game where the Saints began playing and led from start to finish," says coach Garrett Karcha.

Sacred Heart got by Estevan 78-58 to advance to the final. Leading point getters in the game were Liebrecht with 20 and Coutts close behind with 19. Estevan led by one point at the half, but SHHS had a strong second half with many of the players off the bench chipping in to take and hold a comfortable lead, Karcha reports.

Moosomin came out on top of a 71-58 score in the gold medal final. Though the game started close, Moosomin established an 18 point lead at half time which the Saints simply couldn't overcome. A strong press and three point shooting pulled SHHS within six points toward the end of the second half but a strong Moosomin squad held the Saints off to claim the gold medal win.
