If you're talking to Yamalube Schrader's SMX Racing rider Shawn Maffenbeier about Morden '11, he's likely to give you an apt description of being a human lawn dart. The first moto almost had Maffenbeier taking the hole shot and after a couple corners he collided with another rider and headed off into the bush. He managed to pull himself out and was in 28th.
"Shawn put his head down and wrung everything he could out of his Yamaha 450," says owner/manager Randy Maffenbeier. "The Yamalube lubricated motor and GYTR clutch kept everything running smoothly in the horrendous conditions while other bikes, motors and clutches were burning out all over the track. Shawn was able to battle back to 8th for the first moto."
Moto 2 saw Maffenbeier get an amazing jump to claim the hole shot and lead the pack for the second slop fest. Colton Facciotti soon passed Shawn and Willard was close behind. The three riders soon put some distance between them and the rest of the field.
"I ran 2nd for about half the moto then I went down a couple times and Willard almost passed me. I was just starting to put some distance between us when I slid out bad and both the bike and I were thrown into a ditch that was dug to help drain the track," says Maffenbeier.
"The bike was stuck up to the seat and I was stuck up to my waist in the mud. I had to wait until the end of the moto to be dug out and a bobcat had to pull my bike out."
Taking a DNF for the second moto still had Maffenbeier finishing 14th overall for the day.
"We couldn't be happier with the performance of our Yamalube Schrader's Yamaha equipment," says owner/manager Jackie Maffenbeier. "The Dr. D pipe and Renegade fuel gave us all the extra horse power when we needed it and the SSS Suspension worked perfectly again. Shawn is disappointed in some of his lines that he chose and that's fine as he's young and will learn from his mistakes. As a team we're very excited that he is still in the top ten for the 4th week in a row and we all know there will be bumps along the way as we build a champion!"
Yamalube Schrader's SMX Racing's Denaye Giroux, continued her season in Denver Colorado this past weekend. Giroux finished with an 18th and 21st for an overall 22nd on the day for her first WMA points of the year.
"The field is very strong," says Giroux. "With a 35+ day and 31 riders on the line, I'm very happy with my results. I'm looking forward to Millville and improving my finishes."
