SCIF grants park $50,000

The Saskatchewan Community Initiatives Fund recently announced a $50,000 grant to support the proposed Skateboard Plaza and Walking Park in Yorkton.

The Saskatchewan Community Initiatives Fund recently announced a $50,000 grant to support the proposed Skateboard Plaza and Walking Park in Yorkton.

The application supported by the city was submitted a group of Yorkton youth who are behind the planning, development and organizing for the proposed park.

The Community Initiatives Fund saw merit in the Yorkton proposal for a number of reasons says fund representative Tracy Mann. It supports physical activity. The involvement of youth and young adults in the planning and development of the proposed park was also deemed meritorious. "To see the kind of community support behind that's obviously behind this was exciting for us," Mann reports.

The Community Initiatives Fund was established by the provincial government in 1995. The Fund receives a portion of the net revenues from the casinos in Regina and Moose Jaw. Those revenues are made available through the granting program to support projects and services throughout the province, Mann closes.
