SR. SAINTS HEAD COACH Trent Senger who helped guide his team to its best season in quite awhile, was voted Coach of the Year by fellow coaches.

Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) vice principal and senior football team head coach Trent Senger was recently recognized as Coach of the Year in the Saskatchewan Football Association (SFA) Nine Man East Central League at the recent award ceremony held at Martensville, Sask.

"I don't often look at award winners or stuff like that. It's just something I don't do. I guess I never have," Senger claims. Therefore the award came a surprise and kind of a shock to him. "You do the same thing year after year and you keep doing your best. It was an interesting honor. I was really quite happy," he admits.

Senger was selected by his peers. In the past the coaches voted for the awards for athletes. Over the last few years coaches decided to recognize coaches. Fellow coaches in the East Central Region selected him as most deserving of the award. "Coming from your peers it's a pretty big honor," Senger states.

A colleague informed Senger he was being recognized for the football program he had established at Sacred Heart. It was based not only on the team's record season, but also for the way the youngsters played and handled themselves on the field, Senger points out. The colleague suggested how classy the kids were was a reflection of the coach. "I guess in some ways it is and that, to me, was the biggest part of the honor. If they think that's a reflection on what I do then I'm very proud of that," he closes.
