The Yorkton Regional High School (YRHS) Senior Raiders claimed the title at the Sacred Heart High School senior boys' volleyball tournament over the weekend.

The Raiders prepared by working on ball control, some serve-receive and some passing, says YRHS coach Dion Pfeifer.

Kincaid proved to be the strongest opponent for the Senior Raiders, says Pfeifer. They have three or four very strong players for a small town school. They should do very well in their division in the next couple of weeks, Pfeifer predicts. "They're a very solid team and we had to play good volleyball in order to beat them," he suggests.

Leading up to regionals and provincials the Senior Raiders will need to work on some serving. "We missed a lot of serves and we need to serve tougher over the next couple of weeks when we play the 5A schools next weekend, during the southerns and provincial championships," Pfeifer states.

"If we can pass the ball and serve the ball, we can play with any team in the province," he asserts.

The Senior Raiders are big and very athletic, Pfeifer says. As long as his hitters can get the ball in the proper position, they should be able to hit the ball very well, he claims.

This weekend will host a 12 team senior boys tournament starting at 2:30 Friday, November 4, running all day Saturday as well. The tournament will feature the top 4A and 5A teams in Saskat-chewan as well as two top Brandon teams. The tournament, which promises some excellent volleyball competition, will be played at YRHS and at M.C. Knoll School.

YRHS will host southern regionals the following weekend. The event, which will feature the top eight teams from the south, will begin Friday evening and run all day saturday at the YRHS gym. The top three finishers will advance to provincial in Prince Albert. "That's the biggest weekend coming up," Pfeifer says.

YRHS will be ranked first or second going into the southern regionals. "If we play like we can play, we should qualify (for provincials) in the top three positions," he predicts.

If the Raiders don't play to their potential, anything might happen but the team goal is to win southerns and advance to provincials.
