September is BBBS Month

The Month of September has officially been proclaimed as Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Month across Canada and in Yorkton.

The Month of September has officially been proclaimed as Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Month across Canada and in Yorkton.

BBBS is committed to Canada's young people who will be the leaders by providing them with the highest quality, volunteer based mentoring programs said Irma Van De Bon, Executive Director of the Yorkton BBBS Branch to Yorkton City Council members Monday evening.

"The month of September will be an opportunity for us to become more visible in our community with additional publicity helping to recruit volunteers to assist us as we try to implement mentoring programs which best suit the needs of the children."

At present time there are over 250 children served annually in this area through mentoring programs and 36 local children on a waiting list for big brothers and/or sisters.

As a result of the need for awareness for the program a number of events have been planned for September including a flag raising at City Hall on September 8 at 10 a.m. and a hamburger, hot dog give away on September 15 at the Cornerstone Credit Union.

On September 30 Esterhazy Bigway Foods will also be hosting a barbecue with all proceeds going to BBBS programs.
