The Yorkton Film Festival just doesn't begin and end in May. Initiatives to promote and show films featured in the festival happen all year round.

The 2011 Golden Sheaf Award tour gives audiences across Canada the opportunity to view films featured in the festival.

The tour involves a DVD featuring films grouped around one of ten themes, with all films sourced from the over 300 films submitted to the festival, explains Randy Goulden with the festival.

The categories this year will be the Aboriginal, Senior's, Children's, Healthy Living, Multicultural, Arts & Culture, Nature & Environment, Parks, Young Adult and General GSA Tours. The Healthy Living tour is sponsored by the Sunrise Health Region, and the Multicultural by the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan.

Goulden explains that the tours are sent to a wide variety of groups, such as schools, clubs, libraries, and any groups which are interested in viewing the films. She notes that many groups have written back with positive feedback, and they're proud of how the tour brings short film to a wide variety of people.

"Last year our GSA tours were screened across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and they had close to 8,900 views," Goulden notes.

The tour is distributed on DVD to these groups free of charge, with the only cost being return postage. Each disc contains approximately an hour of film, consisting of a variety of short film.

Those interested in booking a tour can do so through the festival website at www.goldensheafawards.com or by calling Kyle Markewich, Program Manager, at 783-7077 or [email protected].
