Sacred Heart High School's final Cab Clothing Athletes of the Month were named. June winners Brooke Mentanko and Caleb Sutter, two provincial medal winning members of the successful Sacred Heart track and field squad were honored as the final Athletes of the Month for the 2011/12 school year.
Sutter a member of the SHHS track team, won silver in the javelin and bronze in the 100 meter sprint at East Central Districts advancing to provincials in two events, an impressive feat for the first year high school track athlete. Sutter also was named to the East Central School Division relay team that won the bronze medal at SHSAA provincials in the 4 x 100 relay team. Sutter's coaches said the grade nine athlete made great improvements throughout the season while being involved in multiple activities. Sutter looks to have a bright future in track and field with the Saints that should see many more provincial medals.
The June female Athlete of the Month award goes to Brooke Mentanko. Brooke showed tremendous dedication to her training for track and won gold in the 400, 800, 1,500, and 3,000 meter races earning her the Sr. Girls Aggregate trophy at East Central Districts. At provincials she earned a bronze medal in the 800 meter race and a silver in the 1500 meter event. Next year Brooke will be a member of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies track team as she graduates and moves on from the Saints program. Saints coaches credit Brooke as one of the hardest working athletes to ever be a member of the track program and her hard work should continue to earn her success beyond high school.
