The Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) January Female Athlete of the Month, Emily Kruger, is a member of the senior girls basketball team.
Her coach says she is the most dedicated player on the team, attending every practice and being one of the hardest working players on the court. During games she is a very consistent player and she is always in position while on defense.
Offensively Kruger is a consistent scorer, again always in the right position and taking the right shots.
She is a quiet leader of the team, leading by her actions both on and off the court.
Kruger is being recognized as the athlete of the month because she is a strong teammate, always encouraging and always willing to help her fellow players.
The SHHS January male Athlete of the Month, Mark Kuemper, is a member of the senior boys basketball team. He is one of the captains of the team and he is always committed to practice and wanting to become better.
The senior boys basketball team competed in two tournaments in January capturing gold in Estevan and winning the B-pool by beating Prince Albert Carlton in the first annual York City Classic. Kuem-per contributed greatly to the team's success, winning a game MVP in the Estevan final. He was also named to the All-star line at the Regional tournament which had the top 4A teams in the province.
Kuemper will often lighten the mood during tournaments by wearing red to attract 'gang' attention and have his 'bro's' come to his defense.
