The Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) senior boys' volleyball team travelled to the University of Regina (U of R) for a 20 team tournament. It was the first court action for the senior team this season.
The tournament was set up of four pools of five teams. In Sacred Heart's pool there was Kincaid, Campbell, Balfour and Hepburn.
In the round robin matches, the Senior Saints defeated Hepburn while still scoring at least 16 points out of 25 on the other teams. The Saints placed fourth in their pool which moved them into the playoffs facing off with Carnduff.
Sacred Heart beat Carnduff in two straight sets, 25-15 and 25-23.
The team then advanced to the C final facing off with O'Neil from Regina.
The game was a great court battle, though the saints lost 23-25, 22-25.
Overall the saints team placed 14th and showed significant improvements throughout the tournament. "I have many new athletes who did not play volleyball last year, so this was a great tournament to get players on the court and receiving lots of game time. The team played well against the large city schools and we look forward to improving our skills for our next tournament coming up in Langenburg September 23 and 24," says coach Curtis Moen.
