The Yorkton Speed Swim Club recently wrapped up its season with an awards supper. The club presented five awards to very deserving young swimmers at the supper.
Head coach Ashley Benko pointed out that the purpose of the awards is to recognize a few of the club's swimmers who have done something special this season.
Jennifer Haczkewicz received the "Golden Goggle Award" recognizing her for her success in competition this past season. Haczkewicz recorded three "AA Times" this past season allowing her to compete at the coveted ManSask Meet in Winnipeg in July.
Auston Roberts was awarded the "Most Improved Swimmer Award." Roberts never came home from a swim meet this season without improving his personal best times in at least one swim. On several occasions his improvements were to the magnitude of shaving 30 or more seconds off of his previous best performances.
The "Spirit of Swimming Award" was presented to Jessica Santfleben who drives in from Melville to train with the club and very rarely misses a training session. Her commitment and dedication to the sport help raise the bar for all of the young swimmers around her.
Kyra Freshak and Connor Watrych rounded out the club's award winners receiving the "IronWoman" and "IronMan" awards. The award is presented to the swimmer(s) who attend all practices and make the most of their training time in the water.
Benko says that the awards supper officially drew the season to a close, but that the start up is just around the corner for next season.
Interested swimmers can checkout the speed swim club out at the City Wide Registration at the end of August at the FlexiHall. Registration information can also be picked up at the pool.
