Sr. Lady Saints host tournament

The Sacred Heart High School Senior Lady Saints hosted an eight team senior girls volleyball tournament at the Halo Dome over the weekend.

The Sacred Heart High School Senior Lady Saints hosted an eight team senior girls volleyball tournament at the Halo Dome over the weekend. SHHS head coach Perry Enns says it was a good tournament with teams from all over the province providing some very strong competition.

With the whole Lady Saints team playing Friday, SHHS had a couple of very tough matches against the Yorkton Regional High School and Melville, finishing the day with a 2-2 record, Enns reports.

Saturday, four key players, including a starting setter and a starting hitter, left to play soccer. The Lady Saints completed the round robin in fifth pace to advance to the quarter final to face Moosomin. The girls lost a close first game to Moosomin. Trailing Moosomin 24-18 in the second game, the Lady Saints battled back to win the game 26-24 to force a third game. Unfortunately SHHS lost a very close third game.

"The girls did extremely well. They fought for every point. They never gave up and showed a lot of heart and determination all tournament long," Enns asserts.

Coming off a recent gold medal win in Canora, Enns is very pleased with the team's performance this season given that the Lady Saints are playing with nine rookies this year. "I'm more than pleased with our results this year. They've actually exceeded my expectations being such a young. They've played very well together and they have that never-say-die attitude," he states.

While the team all played very well, all three seniors (Grade 12s), Mariel Kotyk, Katy Coleridge and Breanna Ostafie, showed a lot of good skill and good leadership. They did a fantastic job both Friday and Saturday, leading the team both in that emotional area as well as skill wise, Enns continues.

The Lady Saints will host conference playoffs Saturday, November 5.

The Melville Lady Cobras claimed first place in the Sacred Heart tournament while Estevan were the runners up.
