The Yorkton Regional High School (YRHS) Raider Gridders hosted the Weyburn Eagles at Kinsmen Century Field Saturday afternoon.
Raider running back Paul Toth scored the opening touchdown. The point after was good to make it 7-0 for YRHS.
On the first play of the second quarter, Tanner Kardynal scampered 34 yards into the Eagles' end zone to improve Yorkton's score to 13-0.
Toth added another six points after a 65 yard run play to extend the Raider lead to 19-0.
With just short of two seconds left in the first half, Raider kicker Colby Melnechenko was good on a field goal attempt from 28 yards out to make the score 22-0 at the half.
Layne Hull's TD and the ensuing one point convert made the score 29-0 for Yorkton.
With less than 30 seconds left in the game, Weyburn's Dylan Turner score a six point major to put the Eagles on the scoreboard. Following a two point convert, the final score in the game was 29-8 for Yorkton.
YRHS statistician Shawn Redmond reports Toth had two touchdowns, Kardynal had one and Layne Hull scored one.
Toth picked up 213 yards on the ground and 28 passing yards for a total of 241 yards in the game.
As a team the Raiders earned 358 yards rushing and 80 yards passing for a total of 438 yards.
Defensively, Toth and Graham McKen were top defensive players. Toth had the most tackles including a quarterback sack and a fumble recovery. McKen got five tackles in the game.
Head coach for the game, Jason Boyda says, "We played Raider football today, a complete game, 48 minutes on offense, defense and special teams." The offense did a fantastic job, taking advantage of Wey-burn's weaknesses, Boyda adds. "Hat's off to the O-line. It all starts with them and they made it possible," he continues.
Boyda had high praise for Toth's performance. "He's all over the field doing everything," Boyda suggests.
Quarterback Dalton Fichtner also played two way, at corner and on punt and kick-off run backs.
The win boost the Raider record to 2-3 which secures a playoff berth. YRHS coaches hope to do well on the remaining two regular season games to move up in playoff standings.
The final two regular season games against the Luther Lions and the O'Neil Titans will be played in Regina, Boyda reports.
