The Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) Saints senior boys' volleyball team hosted their home tournament October 28 and 29 in the Halo Dome.

The Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) Saints senior boys' volleyball team hosted their home tournament October 28 and 29 in the Halo Dome.

The tournament was an eight team round robin which consisted of teams from Sacred Heart, Esterhazy, Yorkton Regional High School (YRHS), Melville, Langenburg, Kincaid, Lanigan and Moose Jaw Vanier.

After round robin play the YRHS placed first, Kincaid second, Melville third while Sacred Heart, Lanigan and Vanier all tied for fourth place. After the tie breaking procedure, Lanigan prevailed to move into the playoffs in fourth place.

In the semi-final matches YRHS defeated Lanigan 25-18, 25-19 while Kincaid beat out Melville 25-16, 26-24.

In the bronze match Lanigan beat Melville in two straight 25-17 and 25-14.

YRHS claimed the gold medal in two very close games against silver medalists Kincaid, winning 26-24 and 25-20. Lanigan claimed the bronze medal.

"The tournament went along smoothly and I would like to thank the referees, canteen workers and the care takers who put in many hours making this tournament a success," says tournament coordinator, Saints coach Curtis Moen.

The Saints were short-handed for most of the tournament with provincial soccer and football playoffs taking some of their key players, but the team fought hard.

Moen commends Anthony Fetsch and Colin Shewchuk on their aggressive court play as they made many dives for the ball to keep the play going.

The Senior Saints next court action will be November 4-5 at the YRHS tournament.

Sacred Heart will host conference playoffs Wednesday, November 9. The event will feature five teams in a round robin competition including SHHS, Kamsack, Melville Comprehensive School, Fort Qu'appelle and Balcarres. The top three teams will move on to regionals the following weekend, Moen closes.
