The Yorkton Superannuated Teachers Society (STS) wrapped up its bowling season with an awards luncheon at the Army and Navy Club.
STS bowling chair Brian Beck says the season was very good. "We've had very good turnouts every week," Beck adds.
The STS league bowls at the Yorkton Bowl Arena Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. "We're there about nine o'clock for coffee, chitchat and warm-ups and we start at 9:30," Beck reports.
The league runs midSeptember and continues until mid-April after a break during the Christmas season.
Beck admits the league numbers have declined a little due to the ravages of time. Health issues and relocation reduce numbers every year. But, every year some new people join, he points out.
Currently about 34 bowlers have signed up for the next season which will be particularly exciting as Yorkton will host the STS provincial championship, Beck reports.
This year the Yorkton Pincasticts team of Brian and Paula Beck, Orest Machusek, Dora and Ed Machusek will compete at the provincial bowling roll offs in Saskatoon May 5 and 6.
Beck invites all retired teachers and school division employees to come out and join the STS League. However, he points out, the league isn't closed to bowlers from other professions. "If you think you'd like to bowl, give us a call. If we have room we'll definitely include you. We're not a highly professional league but we're a highly entertaining league," Beck suggests.
