To the Editor:

Sunrise Health Region is advertising that effective November 20, 2012 they will start to charge for parking in the parking lot at Yorkton Regional Health Centre. The rates range from $1.00 per half hour to $10.00 per day.

I have had occasion to visit the Yorkton Health Centre on many occasions, and each and every time, it would take a good 15 to 20 minutes just to get through Admitting, and then I would have to wait at least another half hour past my stipulated appointment time with the specialist or diagnostic services. The way that the doctors or diagnostic services schedule appointments would indicate that they can see at least two patients in half an hour.

Theoretically I should pay $2.00 for one hour, or perhaps $3.00 to get another half hour leeway. But that's only in theory, because without fail, I'll spending upwards to 3 hours or more before I'm done! My question to the Sunrise Health Centre is: Will Sunrise give me a voucher to offset the extra parking cost due delays outside of my control? Or should I just pay the $10.00 day fee?!

The $1.00 per half hour may not mean much to a lot of people, but it sure means a lot for us seniors!
