The Saskatchewan Abilities Council is celebrating 60 years of success and it's hoping Yorkton residents will lend their support to ensure many more years of benefits for local residents.
In conjunction with the 60 year milestone, the Parkland Ability Centre, (Yorkton Branch) has established the "Spirit of Success Fund" to help further benefit the clients of the Day Program at the local centre.
"The renovated facility - which is now called the Tillman Quality of Life Centre) - is a real testament to the vision and dedication of many of the employees and supporters of the Parkland Ability Centre and through the Spirit of Success campaign the success and achievements will be communicated to the residents of the Parkland area," comments Kenn Propp, Honorary Chairperson Spirit of Success Fund.
"Over the course of the next year we hope to raise an additional $20,000, all of which will remain for the sole use of the Parkland Ability Centre. The funding will be used to benefit the clients of the facility by purchasing supplies and equipment for the Day Program," adds Propp.
The Day Program consists of the Training Centre and Life Enrichment Services. In the Training Centre, clients are given the opportunity to gain skills and abilities to prepare them for employment in the community. Life Enrichment programs offer recreation and leisure activities at the Parkland Ability Centre and in various community facilities and events.
"We should all be very proud of what has been accomplished by the council in our Parkland Region. This facility is one of the finest in the country and through our varied initiatives from cardboard recycling to the sewing workshop we are able to find meaningful employment for persons with varied abilities.
Through meaningful employment people feel fulfilled and proud of their accomplishments," states Propp.
"It is always easier to choose to forget about persons who need additional support, either emotional or physical. I would hope through our Spirit of Success campaign we will be able to effectively communicate what the Council has accomplished and what we hope to accomplish in the future. If we can convince many others to 'choose to remember' and to support us financially, we can continue to 'work together to enrich lives through abilities'."
On behalf of the Parkland Ability Centre and the clients that benefit from the facility, Propp is inviting local residents to make a gift to the Saskatchewan Abilities Council.
"With your support the Parkland Ability Centre can continue to successfully expand and serve more people in the region."
