Canora and area residents are being asked to be cautious when dealing with computer related phone calls. RCMP advise there is an active scam that has been reported.
Local RCMP report there has been numerous complaints received from the community in regards to being contacted by individual(s) claiming to be employed by Microsoft.
"They further go on to tell you that they need to acquire remote access to your computer in order to resolve any issues or potential issues that you may or may not be experiencing," says Cst. Cory J. Dowling of the Canora RCMP.
"From there they will ask you to provide them with all your personal information and then ask you for a credit card number. We, as the RCMP, would like to tell you that this is a scam. By providing permission for someone to access your computer you are providing someone with the ability to access more information than you know... i.e. banking, billing, personal information, passwords amongst other potential vulnerable information. Again we would suggest that you not provide your credit card information to anyone who calls in regards to the fore mentioned information provided."
