TERRIER HEAD COACH Trent Cassan (r) and assistant coach Danny McKay present Terrier defenseman Kurtis Decker with the Coaches' Award at the recent awards banquet.

Yorkton Terrier head coach Trent Cassan was pleased with the very good season his team put together. Right from the start he was happy with the players he worked with. "They were attentive. They worked hard. They had a lot of respect," he describes the 2010-11 team.

He's not thrilled with the prospect of losing some top 20 year-old players. However the players who do return have had a taste of winning and will be relied on next season.

Coaches advise players and try to guide them along, Cassan suggests. "You can give all the advice you want but the players have to believe it and work hard, listen and do the things you ask them to," he says.

The key is to attract quality players. Cassan looks for players who really want to play and really love playing hockey. They enjoy coming to the rink every day and have a lot of character, he says.

The big thing is character. Hockey won't go well for everyone every day. There are ups and downs in the game. Some people can handle both the good and bad times. Those are the ones he's looking for.

If Cassan had his choice he'd like to see all the staff return. They've been great to work with and he's enjoyed working with them.

Cassan played with the Terriers for three years. He's coached for three years as well. He enjoys the city, the people and the fan support. Yorkton's a great place to live and a great place to be involved with the Terriers.
