The Yorkton Terriers improved their record for November to 7-4 with a pair of wins on home ice last week.
Thursday night the Terriers came out top 5-1 over the visiting Weyburn Red Wings on the strength of five goals in the first two periods at the Farrell Agencies Arena. But for a lone third period goal by the Wings, Terrier netminder Devin Peters was looking at a shutout.
Clarke Breitkreuz opened the scoring for Yorkton with an early first period marker assisted by Brent Struble and Davis Vandane.
Craig Eisenhut added Yorkton's second goal about a minute later assisted by Zak Majkowski and Kyle McLeod.
Breitkreuz notched his second of the night early in the second frame assisted by Rob-bie Ciolfi and Sam Rockwell.
Struble scored Yorkton's fourth goal assisted by Breitkreuz and Vandane.
Riley Paterson capped Terrier scoring with a powerplay goal late in the second assisted by Nathan Murray and Brenden Poncelet.
Keegan Bruce scored Weyburn's lone goal, a powerplay marker midway through the third period.
Terrier head coach and GM Trent Cassan says the early first period goal set the tone for the game.
Cassan says solid goal tending and play eked out a win in Estevan earlier in the week which brought some memento home to Yorkton.
He says the line of Ciolfi, Breitkreuz and Struble play well together. "They've got some good chemistry. They move the puck well and they all complement each other well," Cassan suggests.
The Terriers have also benefitted from some secondary scoring. "Every night when we've won our games we've got scoring from different lines each night. As you go deeper, we're going to have more success. If you want to have success, you need that from everyone not just one line," Cassan declares.
The Terriers learned from their loss to Nipawin if they don't work hard and play with intensity every night, anyone can be beaten in this league, Cassan suggests.
He says he's not looking over his shoulder at any other team. "All we can control is our effort and how we do it and try to win our games," he closes.
Saturday, the Terriers doubled the visiting Kindersley Klippers 4-2 at home.
Vandane lit up the scoreboard for Yorkton just 24 seconds into the game assisted by Struble and Breitkreuz.
Ciolfi slipped a powerplay marker past Klip-pers netminder Sean Cahill to make it 2-0 for Yorkton assisted by Struble.
Breitkreuz scored Yorkton's lone second period goal, a powerplay marker, early in the frame assisted by Ciolfi and Struble.
Vandane recorded his second goal of the game, a single handed marker, less than a minute into the third period to hand Yorkton the 4-2 win.
Andrew Dommett scored both goals for Kindersley, the first midway through the first period and the second early in the second frame.
The double win at home leaves the Terriers solidly in first place in the Sherwood Confer-ence with 42 points, 11 ahead of second place Estevan with 31 points.
