It was a busy weekend for the Terriers as the SJHL club played two games in two nights.
The Estevan Bruins paid a visit Friday night to the Farrell Agencies Arena as the Terriers tried to extend their hot start to the season.
Captain Blaine Tendler made it 1-0 for the Terriers in the second period, after a scoreless first, on a goal from Devon McMullen and Brent Struble.
Robbie Ciolfi extended the lead to two goals with his fifth of the campaign. Craig Eisenhut and Clarke Breitkreuz drew the assists as the Terriers took the two-goal lead into the second intermission.
After Estevan's Troy Hunter made it 2-1, Clarke Breitkreuz took over. The Terriers right-winger scored two goals, one on the powerplay, within two minutes of each other to put the game out of the Bruins reach.
Estevan would put one more on the board but it wouldn't matter as Yorkton took home a 5-2 victory.
Goaltender Devin Peters was solid in the win for the Terriers. Peters thwarted several Bruins chances and made 44 saves for the well-deserved victory.
Bruins goaltender and familiar foe, Joel Danyluk, made 33 saves in the loss as the upstart Terriers continued their winning ways at home.
Captain Blaine Tendler was credited with the game's first star, while Peters (second) and Breitkreuz (third) were honoured respectively.
The Terriers special teams deserved it's share of credit in the victory as they managed three powerplay goals on six chances.
With the majority of their wins coming at home this season, the Terriers had a chance to prove themselves on the road the following night with a visit to Notre Dame.
In a tightly-played, defensive contest, the Terriers finally notched the first goal of the game at 14:53 of the third period.
Zak Majkowski managed to put his fifth of the year behind the Hounds Russell Abbott to put the Terriers up 1-0. The goal came on the powerplay and was assisted by Eisenhut and Breitkreuz.
The Hounds would respond, however, and spoil Devin Peters shutout bid with a goal from Patrick Thompson-Gale with just over six minutes left in regulation.
The game remained scoreless through the rest of the period and overtime and required a shootout to determine a winner.
Both goalies stood tall in the shootout until Thompson-Gale, Notre Dame's final shooter, beat Peters to secure the 2-1 victory.
For his heroics, Thompson-Gale was rewarded as the first star while Majkowski's goal earned him the third star.
After a break on Sunday, the Terriers were back at it on Monday with another game in Notre Dame.
Unlike Saturday's game, this time the Hounds opened the scoring. However, the Terriers would have a response.
Goals from Breitkruez, Paterson and Kyle McLeod, within three minutes of each other at the tail end of the opening period, put the Hounds on their heels and the Terriers up 3-1.
As indicated by the 18-6 shot advantage in the first, Yorkton came out flying looking to end their one-game losing streak.
After a second period that saw only one goal, by Notre Dame's Trevor Milner, the Terriers resumed control in the final twenty minutes.
Zak Majkowski's sixth of the campaign from Rylan McDonell at 11:17 of the third put the Terriers back up by two.
The Hounds would again reduce the deficit to one before an empty net goal by Nathan Murray (his first of the season) put the icing on the 5-3 win.
Backup Warren Shymko made 24 saves while Majkowski and McDonell picked up first and third star honours, respectively, for their performances.
The win vaulted the Terriers to the top of the Sherwood Conference, as of Monday, with a 5-1-1-1 record - four points clear of the second-place Estevan Bruins.
