It's a big event for the province and this year it will unfold in Yorkton!
Yorkton's Paper Bag Players theatre group has announced it has been selected to host TheatreFest 2012 - Saskatchewan's annual, week long, full length play festival that will run from April 8 through until the 15th.
"Each night we will have a non-profit community theatre group performing a full length play," detailed group member Tami Hall in a presentation to Yorkton City Council Monday evening. "We'll have morning adjudications, a full length play every evening... a green room social after each play, entertainment and a midnight lunch... It's a great opportunity to showcase our city's hospitality and the arts.
"In celebration of this provincial event we would to ask that the City of Yorkton declare April 8-15 2012 as "Theatre Week" in Yorkton. The theme of the week is "Tis the Season to Celebrate Theatre" and that means each evening will feature a holiday to celebrate. Sunday will be Valentine's Day, Monday, St. Patrick's, Tuesday is Easter, Wednesday Canada Day, Thursday Halloween, Friday Christmas and Saturday New Year's Eve.
All performances will be held at the Sacred Heart Theatre on Gladstone Ave. in Yorkton. Adjudications will be held at the Comfort Inn, which is also the host hotel, and the green rooms will be held at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery from Sunday to Thursday and at the Yorkton Gun Club, Friday and Saturday.
