On September 8 at approximately 7:48 a.m., RCMP executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant on an abandoned theater in the community of Grenfell, approximately 125 km east of Regina.
Inside the theater, officers found roughly 416 marijuana plants in all stages of growth, as well as 10 pounds of cultivated marijuana which was ready for distribution. RCMP say the marijuana grow operation utilized a sophisticated and automated system to support the marijuana plants.
The investigation into the property began on Tuesday, September 7, following a seizure by Canadian Border Service Agency (CBSA) officers at the Goodlands, MB.
CBSA authorities contacted the RCMP in Broadview with information that led to the search on September 8.
The following have been charged in relation to this investigation: Luc Bernard D'Abadie, male 29 years old, from Calgary - Production of a Controlled Substance and Possession for the purpose of Trafficking (CDSA); and Erika Miljkovic, female 55 years old, from Grenfell - Production of a Controlled Substance and Possession for the purpose of Trafficking (CDSA).
D'Abadie was arrested at the border and was taken into custody with the assistance of the RCMP Killarney detachment in Manitoba. He was then transported to the RCMP detachment in Broadview, as part of the investigation. Miljkovic was arrested in Grenfell during the execution of the search warrant. Both were remanded in custody and were to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on Thursday.
Also assisting in the investigation are members from the RCMP Forensic Identifications Unit from Yorkton as well as members from the Regina Integrated Drug Unit, the Yorkton General Investigations Unit and the Regina Integrated Intelligence Unit.
