The Yorkton United Fury U14 competed in the annual A.C.F.C. Winterfest Indoor Soccer Tournament in Regina recently.

The first game for the Fury was against Regina Q.C. United. Yorkton claimed a 6-1 victory to open the tournament.

The next game for the United U14 boys was against R.E.U. Santos from Regina. The early 7 a.m. game had an effect on the boys who still came out on top 3-0.

Jaden Porte scored the hat trick while Fury keeper Tyson Black earned the shut out.

The Fury finished off round robin play Saturday evening squaring off against A.C. Pumas Gold from Regina. Yorkton beat the host A.C. team 7-0 to finish first in their pool to earn a berth in the gold medal game.

Jaden Porte and Zach Kostersky (one with a beautiful header) netted two goals while Matthew McKee, Ryan Nussbaumer, and Haylen Langelier added singles.

Tyson Black, in net for the United Fury, earned his second shut out of the tournament.

The gold medal final was played Sunday afternoon saw the Fury facing the Humboldt Hurricanes. Yorkton United U14 Fury had been waiting to play the Humboldt squad since the Regina Razz tournament, as the team felt that Humboldt deserved to be given a shot in the gold medal game but lost their spot due to crossover rules. "We knew Humboldt would be our best competition of the tournament and were hoping to play them in the final," says Fury coach Chad Grodzinski.

Predictions proved to be right as the teams appeared to be pretty equal both ways throughout the game.

Humboldt had most of the momentum for the first half of the game but found themselves down 2-0 after goals by Jaden Porte and Zach Kostersky (another header).

Humboldt managed to score one goal before the half ended to finish the half with Yorkton leading 2-1.

The play in the second half seesawed both ways until the momentum started to shift to Yorkton when Matthew McKee broke through the Humboldt defense to make it 3-1 for Yorkton.

Jaden Porte added his second goal of the night and ninth of the tournament to seal the gold medal for the Yorkton United U14 Fury with a 4-1 win.

Yorkton's keeper Tyson Black faced and stopped a direct penalty shot to take the wind out of the Hurricanes giving him a 3-0 record this season in penalty shot situations. It was a well deserved gold medal for the team and Grodzinski was happy with all of the players performances, especially in Sunday's final.

The Fury relied on their defence to stop the other teams to give the forwards the opportunity to score, which they did.

The next action for the U14 Fury is Provincials to be played in Regina February 26-28.
