What's the matter? Cupid's got your tongue? While Valentine's Day might not be everyone's cup of tea, there are ways to get through it - even if you're surrounded by sickeningly sweet lovebirds while your life is well... let's just say, less than that.
Let's face it, even if you're in a relationship, it's not always roses and smiles. It may be Valentine's Day but the bills don't stop coming in, the workload is still there and the stresses don't seem to want to fade into the woodwork. No matter how you look at the occasion, you just may find yourself asking, hmmm... what to do this Valentine's Day?
Luckily, I stumbled upon the ultimate Valentine's Day Survival Guide...
Here are a few words of wisdom that I read:
- First off, the gifts you receive (or don't receive) on Valentine's Day do NOT determine the depth of a person's love. If that were the case, then there would be a lot of unloved people in this world. Love can come in many ways, and it comes 365 days a year, not just on one day so don't make the mistake of putting all of your heart into one basket!
- Be careful not to over-romanticize Valentine's Day. It's not a day to abandon reality. If you are not ready to get engaged on February 13, what makes you think that anything will be different the following day? Do not suspend your logic in attempt to be romantic.
- If you're single, be careful of asking that special someone out because the stakes are higher on this day and can lead to greater disappointment. If you're married, this is not a way to make up for long lost time. The same issues will be there the next day, if not dealt with.
- Don't sit around waiting to be asked out on a date only to get to February 14 and realize you have nothing to do. Take control by putting some advance thought into how you want to spend the day and formulating a plan. Whether you decide to spend it alone in pyjama-clad hibernation or out getting merry with friends or family it should be a choice that you've made rather than a last resort.
The bottom line is, while it may be special to some (and that's great!), February 14 is really just another day. Make of it what you like. The 15th will roll around, the sun will come up and a new day will unfold, filled with new opportunities. Don't let one day drag you down. Happy Valentine's Day all!
