October 18-24 has been officially proclaimed as "Waste Reduction Week in the City of Yorkton.
The local Solid Waste Management Committee has a mandate of zero waste to the landfill by 2025 to help achieve that goal, the special awareness week has been planned.
"By participating in Waste Reduction Week in Canada... you are about to embark on an exciting campaign of waste reduction that has become an annual event involving thousands of Canadians across the country," said Michael Bucholzer of the city's Environmental Services Department to council Monday evening. "Waste reduction Weeks aims to inform and engage Canadians about wasteful practices and their environmental and social ramifications."
During the week tours of the local landfill site have been planned as well as at the Saskatchewan Abilities Centre. "Citizens will be informed about new practices relating to the collection of disposal bins, changes to the curbside recycling program as well as on recycling and material disposal methods."
