A bylaw change has allowed a new apartment development to take place.
The R-3 zoning bylaw no. 14/2003 previously allowed for a maximum building height of 12.3 meters, or three storeys. In a recent council meeting, that maximum building height was increased to 16.8 meters, or four storeys.
That change will allow for development of a new apartment building in the city to take place. The building, which is still in its initial planning stages, will be a four storey building with underground parking. The building will be located at 7 Alderwood Place.
It is expected that construction will begin late this year, with the building being completed in 2011. The units will initially be rental properties, with rates planned to be at standard market rates. The current plan is for 63 two bedroom units in the building.
Mayor James Wilson notes that a development like this has not happened since the 1980s.
