The province has announced a welcome improvement to the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) by lowering the deductible amount and increasing the maximum amount of compensation available to individuals and businesses.
For those struggling to cope in the aftermath of recent flooding, the announcement is good news.
"These improvements will provide greater financial compensation to those whose property was damaged or destroyed by this summer's severe storms," said Premier Brad Wall earlier this week. "While money alone can never replace everything that was lost, our government is working hard to help people with the financial hardship these storms have caused."
For cash strapped home and business owners improvements will include lower deductibles, higher payouts and assistance relocating if necessary.
All the changes are retroactive to the start of the fiscal year on April 1, 2010, so they will benefit victims of this summer's storms says Wall.
Since June, more than 100 Saskatchewan communities - including Yorkton - have been designated as eligible disaster areas so there's no question residents - especially those who are encountering insurance difficulties - are in need of a helping hand.
It's been a challenging spring and summer but with the proper support networks in place and determination, as they always have in the past, Saskatchewan residents will weather the storm.
