Complete details were not released as of press time but an area man is in custody following a tragic weekend homicide.
Members of the RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding an early morning call near the community of Springside on Saturday March 12 at 9:30 a.m. A call came in to the RCMP Communications Centrereporting that an adult female had been stabbed. Upon arrival at the residence near Springside, members located the body of the victim in the yard of the rural residence.
The victim has been identified as 40 year old Tammey Lynn Kulaway of Springside.
The attack on the victim was witnessed by a third party who reported the incident to the RCMP.
Officers made a patrol to the scene and requested assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) as there were some indications that the suspect was in his residence and was armed. While the ERT team was en route to the scene, police were able to negotiate with the adult male suspect by phone. There was no standoff and the adult male, identified as Richard Lesann, aged 43, left the residence upon first contact with members of the RCMP. He was arrested at that time and was taken in to custody. The residence belongs to the accused.
Police continue to investigate the scene of both the residence and rural property near Springside.
An autopsy for Tammey Lynn Kulaway was scheduled earlier this week in Saskatoon by a forensic pathologist. The cause of death is pending and will not be released by the RCMP. Next of kin notification has been completed by investigators for the family of Kulaway.
Lesann, who is also from Springisde, has been charged with Second Degree Murder. He has been remanded into custody and appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court Monday, March 14. Tammey Lynn Kulaway was known to the accused.
